WE are our heartbeats.

Our HeartBeats is an independent Community Interest Company using music, DJing, and performance to empower young people — especially refugees and underrepresented communities.

Through creativity, collaboration, and professional development, we support young adults aged 18–25 to build confidence, develop artistic identity, and gain the tools they need to thrive in the creative industries.

OUR STORY

Our HeartBeats began with a simple belief:

Music can change how young people see themselves — and how the world sees them.

Originally co-created with Counterpoints Arts, Our HeartBeats started as a small creative initiative supporting young people from displaced backgrounds to explore DJing, music, and self-expression. What began as a series of workshops has grown into a community-driven programme offering mentorship, performance opportunities, and long-term creative pathways.

Over time, we’ve collaborated with organisations including Southbank Centre, Roundhouse, Compass Collective, Babylon Migrants Project, and others — building a strong network of support around emerging DJs and performers. Participants have taken their talent from the workshop room to stages and platforms across the UK, from Glastonbury Festival and We Out Here Festival to broadcasts on Worldwide FM, Sister Midnight FM, and local community stations.

These experiences help young DJs and performers step into the industry with confidence, community, and real-world experience. Learn more
